Solar Inverters
The installation costs for solar panel systems are huge. This is an indication that the solar energy industry is still in its infant stage. Basically there are two types of solar inverters. One is the central inverter while another is the distributed inverter.
The central inverter is to convert an aggregated DC powers from multiple solar panels to AC powers. Usually there is only one solar inverter for the entire system, especially in residential solar applications.
The distributed inverters are attached to each solar panel. So the electric power come out from the solar panels are AC-power already. This design reduces the installation cost tremendously. I expect all inverters will be directly attached to the solar panels before they come out from the factories.
Major players in the solar inverters are the German-based SMA Solar Technology, the California-based Power-One and the Colorado-based Advanced Energy Industries.
