Golf at Oakridge Country Club
Today, Kan, Zhen and I went to golf at Oakridge Country Club. Zhen picked me up first, and then picked Kan up, and then we get there together. We started around 11:30 a.m and we finished around 4:00 p.m. It was the best game ever at this course. Zhen got four pars today. He had excellent driver shots, especially in the back nine. His hybrid shots were equally as good as his drivers. Kan did not have any pars, but his iron shots were excellent.
I was very satisfied with my results today. I had one triple bogie and seven pars. All other shots were either bogies or double bogies. But there were more bogies than double bogies. We did not keep scores. I guess I had about 88 strikes in total.
I was most satisfied with the last hole, the 18th hole. The hole is 393 yards in length. There is a river cross the fairway between the tee and the 150-mark. To get to the green, the second shot has to cross the same river again. The minimum clearance to drive a ball to the fairway near the 150-mark is about 230 yard. If one has a slice, the ball will be way right in the fairway, as Kan did at the 18th hole, the second shot to the green center will be more than 220 yard with the river between the landing area of the first ball and the green. If one has a hook, the ball will be definitely in the river. If the tee shot is not long enough, the ball will fall into the river, as Zhen did today. Zhen had two excellent driving shot today in the 18th hole, but both were about 10 to20 yard short to land at the fairway. Both balls fell into the river.
At the 18th hole, I took the maximum challenge in my driving shot; the ball landed at the fairway passing the 150-mark. The driving distance is at least 260 yard. I used a 9-iron for my second shot; the ball landed on the green, but short of the flag. This was the first time I had got on to the green in regulation. My first putt was about 20 feet from the hole; my ball missed the hole by about an inch and rolled another 3 feet passing the hole before stopping below the hole. I did put the ball into the hole with ease in my second putt. So I got a par at the last hole. Every shot for the last hole was executed almost perfectly without any flaws.
I did get a par at the last hole before with one putt. Today I felt I did my best in the last hole. The satisfaction of a par of green-in-regulation was much higher than the par I got before with a par of one-putt. I was so happy for myself for the performance at the last hole. I guess this was part of the reason why I like golf so much. I can challenge myself every time when I play golf.
Before today, I usually play this hole as a par-five for me. I drive across the river first. Then I lay up before the crossing the river. Then I get my third shot to the green. Then I put the ball into the hole with one or two putts. The best is a par, but I got double or triple bogies in most times.
With today’s experience, at least I can have two strategies available for me to play the 18th hole in the future. The chance of getting a par is much higher. Of course, the chance of driving into the water with a penalty shot is much higher as well. But now I like the 18th hole much better than before no matter which strategy I am going to use for my next game at this course.
There were not many golf players today at the course. But there was a 4-people group before us and two-persons group behind us while we were playing. So we played in a very relaxed way.
